Carbon Fiber Bow Pole Build

We recently had a customer building his own 44' cruising catamaran decide to build his own carbon fiber bow poles. Here are the links to his build:

It is an interesting read and if you are considering doing some tubing well worth reviewing.

Cheers

Hey, I saw your fiberglass website for your supply company in Burlington WA, out by the airport, and found your blog off of there.

After reading it a bit I'm guessing youre pretty receptive to questions and DIY projects judging on your site here.

Anyways, I'm turning a vw beetle into a sixties kit car that has an all fiberglass body, which needs a bit of work, but I also need to lay up some fiberglass to fabricate some delorean style doors, and an engine compartment lid among other things like misc repairs.

If I knew how to fiber glass well, I'd probably make all sorts of scoops and such as well.

The problem I've encountered is that I have no idea how to fiber glass, nor any idea what supplies I'd need and in what quantities.

I posted a blog with a slide show of my project. Feel free to take a look at it and make any suggestions?

Thanks, J

Your project looks fun and interesting.

The repairs you need to make will probably be pretty easy and straight forward. Building new doors will be more challenging but not impossible. I would start with the repairs to get used to working with the materials. We have a booklet about how to do fiberglass repairs on boats that explains the techniques you can use to do the repairs on the car body.

We are also going to be doing a demonstration on plug and part building the evening of October 7th that would be really helpful. Of course if you're in the area you can always stop by the shop.

We can help you figure out what materials you need and offer suggestions on how to do it.

Thanks,

Matthew
