April has been a pretty good month up here in the Pacific Northwest for paddleboarding. My wife and I have been able to get out quite a bit and now that it is staying light out past 8pm there is time to get out in the evening after work and explore around.
Mt. Baker is in the background.
The sharper bow on the 14' board really cuts the chop and doesn't pound. I get quite a few questions about how hard is it to paddleboard and the truth is that it is pretty easy. The first few times a lot of people get tight calves and their feet fall asleep, which I think comes from being scared and uncertain so you end up constricting those muscles more than you need to but after a few times out you find that you begin to relax more and that becomes less of an issue.
There is a seal that hangs out around the marina and likes to follow us.
Cruising the marina.
I really like that you don't need to put on a lot of extra gear or rig up anything to go paddleboarding, just a board, paddle, and life jacket and I'm good to go. I usually go in my street clothes and leave my shoes on.
That is the 11 Mahi-Mahi in the foreground.
Plans (patterns) are available for the paddleboards and kits are available as well, contact me for more information.
